Influence of the Coriolis Force on Spreading of River Plumes

Wind is the main external force that governs spreading of river plumes in sea. Many previous studies demonstrated direction (especially small plumes) generally coincides with wind direction. At same time, majority are strongly affected by Coriolis force, which also among baseline knowledge about plumes. In this study, we focus on deflection from induced received little attention before. For purpose, analyzed an extensive set Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 satellite images multiple small- medium-sized at different parts World Ocean synchronous reanalysis data. We angle stable for individual directions, albeit certain limitations related to speed coastal morphology. Moreover, similar located latitudes varies ~0° near Equator 15–25° temperate zones ~30° polar zones. Finally, derived a direct relation between latitude angle. The obtained results contribute our understanding universal features plume dynamics, important monitoring forecasting delivery fate fluvial water river-borne matter regions Ocean.
